Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, a brain disorder that affects an estimated 35 million people worldwide. By 2050, that number is expected to triple to 115 million cases as the world population ages. The cause of this debilitating disease is still unknown. There is no cure, but recent advances have produced the first drugs to help manage symptoms. Research is making important progress in understanding how Alzheimer’s affects the brain, and a number of promising therapies are in clinical development.
